Caring for your Gold-Filled Jewellery
Share

Gold-Filled jewellery is hypoallergenic and made with at least 5% gold coating a base metal such as brass. With proper care it will last up to 10 years without rubbing down to expose the base metal underneath. The gold layer will never tarnish, if you see tarnish that means the gold has been worn away.
Take it off first and put in on last: This applies to any kind of jewellery, it is best to take it off first when the day is done, and put it on last; after make-up, perfume, or moisturizer, to avoid contact with the chemicals.
Avoid wearing your jewellery while swimming or bathing: While it is safe to wear gold-filled jewellery while showering or washing hands, chlorine and saltwater can damage gemstones and corrode gold-filled materials.
Store your jewellery in a dry and safe place: Avoid storing it in humid areas, direct sunlight or places with extreme temperatures. Also, keep it separated from other pieces to prevent scratches or damage.
Clean your jewellery regularly with a soft cloth to remove any dirt or oil: Use a mild soap and warm water to clean the jewellery. For a deep cleaning, you can scrub it with a soft toothbrush. Be sure to rinse the jewellery thoroughly and dry it with a soft cloth.
Avoid wearing your jewelry during activities: that may cause it to come in contact with hard surfaces or other objects that can scratch or damage the gemstones and gold-filled materials.
